VICTIM CRISIS RESPONDER (VCR)

WE NEED CARING, COMPASSIONATE INDIVIDUALS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS AND TRAUMA DUE TO CRIME OR TRAGIC CIRCUMSTANCE


WHAT DOES A VCR DO?

• A VCR responds to a call as a part of a two person team
• They are directed by a Muskoka Victim Services Team Leader to where, when and what they are responding to
• They are never sent alone and are not sent when there is a possibility of danger to themselves or others
• They are there to immediately provide comfort or practical assistance and referral during the immediate crisis period only
• The service they provide is absolutely confidential

POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Mature, Responsible
• Ability or experience to deal with crisis situations
• Non-judgemental approach to victim's issues
• Knowledge of community resources
• Successful completion of minimum 40 hour Crisis Assistance Training Program
• Good communication skills
• Able to commit for one year
• Good listening skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks
• Minimum age, 19
• Valid driver's license/vehicle
• Attendance at monthly upgrading sessions
• Minimum committment of 3 - 12 hour shifts per month
