You must make
application to the agency and are subject to:
- An intake interview
- A CPIC (Criminal Police Information Check)
You will provide references that will be contacted to confirm that you will integrate well into our training program. The Crisis Assistance Training Program consists of a number of units and takes approximately 40-45 hours.
Completion of all units of training is required as well as passing the course exam. A second interview will be conducted to ensure that you are ready for this unique volunteer experience.
The following are examples of some of the training topics and what may be involved:
- Sexual Assault, a presentation from MPS Sexual Assault Centre and a visit to the Sexual Assault Clinic in Orillia
- Suicide, Sudden Death and Death Notification
- Intimate Partner Assault and Domestic Violence , Shelters, Duty to Report, SupportLink, V.Q.R.P, Pars Program, Victim Witness Assistance Program, Family Law Information Center
- Communication Skills and Active Listening
These are just a few of the training topics and each area is explored fully, allowing the individual to be able to apply this knowledge out in the field once they have completed their training and have made the final commitment to become a Victim Crisis Responder.
