HOW CAN MUSKOKA VICTIM SERVICES ASSIST YOU?

Muskoka Victim Services is designed to help people in crisis. People in crisis are especially vulnerable. It is essential that every contact we have with people who have been victims of crime or tragic events is respectful and helpful. This means working within a clear set of principles and ethics. These principles ensure that our service is confidential, supportive, and effective for the people receiving the service.

OUR GOALS:
  1. To enable the person to deal with the immediate situation
  2. To help the person to regain a sense of personal control
  3. To help the person to sort out the most pressing concerns
  4. To help the person decide what needs to be done immediately and what might be helpful longterm

SUGGESTED METHODS TO HELP ALEVIATE THE STRESS REACTION:

  • Alternate periods of any physical exercise with relaxation within the first 24-48 hours.
  • Structure your time, keep busy.
  • You are normal and having normal reactions to an abnormal situation.
  • Talk about it and seek support/help of others.
  • Maintain as normal a schedule as possible.
  • Stay away from drugs and alcohol.
  • Don't make any life changes right now.
  • Eat well balanced and regular meals (even if you don't feel like it).
