There may also be opportunity to become a member of the Board of Directors of Muskoka Victim Services, and to help promote MVS within the District of Muskoka as well as providing support to both the staff and the VCR's in the operation of the agency.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Role of the Board
  • Policy making body
  • Oversee organizations budget, financing, HR policies
  • Sets direction through strategic planning and vision
  • Monitors and controls organizations functioning and achievement of objectives
Duty of Knowledge
  • Objective; Charter, letters patent
  • Requirements of internal governance mechanisms; bylaws
  • Best practices
  • Policies and procedures of organization
Duty of Care
  • No minimum level of skill required
  • Those with particular level of expertise should apply them in the best interest of the organization
  • Act cautiously, anticipate probable consequences
  • Maintain confidentiality
Duty of Diligence
  • Members are accountable to organization; act with prudence to preserve integrity and reputation

Duty to Manage
  • Elect officers
  • Enact bylaws
  • Establish policies and provide guidance
